This past weekend, our beautiful new Heritage Wall was dedicated and blessed. Located in Mother Cabrini Hall, the Wall is a special way for parishioners, who’ve contributed to the legacy of the parish or school through a financial gift, to honor a loved one with that gift. The idea for the wall was first conceived as part of our current Capital Commitment Campaign, and has room to grow for some time into the future.
The project was designed and constructed as an Eagle Scout project by alumnus Andrew Davis (Cabrini class of ‘15). The project took him nearly a year. It began when he approached Fr. Nathan, and asked whether there was something he might be able to do to benefit the parish. Fr. Nathan suggested the Heritage Wall.
Andrew, who is currently a junior at Slinger High School, said that he loved working on the project, and that he learned a lot in the process. For one thing, he learned about the structure of the parish leadership. At each step of the project he made a presentation to Fr. Nathan and the Pastoral Council, and received feedback. “I have to admit,” Andrew said with a laugh. “Before I started on this, I didn’t even know there was a Pastoral Council.” He also learned a lot about construction. He had the help of his family, including a couple of really great mentors, his Uncle Tony and his grandpa, Deacon Mike. Their advice must have been good, because the craftsmanship on the wall is excellent.
Andrew said that several concepts were floated before this design was selected. He is really happy with the design that was selected, and how it turned out. “It’s fitting that it honors donors, and it also honors Mother Cabrini, especially because it’s located in a room that’s named after her.”
If you haven’t had a chance to see it, be sure to stop down to Mother Cabrini Hall to take a look. Andrew did a wonderful job on the wall. We congratulate him on his success in scouting, and we thank him and all the donors, past, present and future, who are contributing to the legacy of our parish.
