For every liturgy, it takes time to set up the books and sacred vessels that are needed, light the candles and prepare the altar.
The faithful volunteers who handle these duties are called sacristans.

The Altar Linen Ministry helps by washing and ironing church linens.  

Other individuals help behind the scenes by watering plants, dusting, washing windows, and filling holy water fonts each week.
